Explaining South Sulawesi's Potentials to Singapore's Junior Ministers, Desmond Lee

The Governor of South Sulawesi, Andi Sudirman Sulaiman held a special meeting with one of Singapore’s junior ministers, Desmond Lee

The Governor of South Sulawesi Province, Andi Sudirman Sulaiman, held a special meeting with one of Singapore’s junior ministers, Desmond Lee who served as Minister of National Development as well as Acting Minister for National Development and Minister in Charge of Social Services Integration Singapore, in Singapore, Monday, August 1, 2022.

“This meeting is to fulfill the ministry’s invitation as well as to keep maintaining bilateral relations with Singapore,” said Governor Andi Sudirman Sulaiman.

At the beginning of the meeting, Andi Sudirman told his experience in Singapore working in a corporation before joining the government as the regional head. Regarding South Sulawesi, Andi Sudirman explained the potential of South Sulawesi, including the availability of abundant food, the high availability of electrical energy including from wind power, and export commodities such as fish.

He also explained the tourism potential of South Sulawesi, such as the Maros-Pangkep Geopark which is currently in the process of heading to the UNESCO world heritage list where Rammang-Rammang tourism site is included, Toraja and other leading tourist attractions.

Besides tourism, South Sulawesi also has good infrastructure. In addition to Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport, there is also Makassar New Port (MNP), which is the largest port outside Java.

“We discussed various potential collaborations. Including sustainable development in Eastern Indonesia with South Sulawesi’s position as the hub,” said the governor.

On that account, after this meeting, he hopes that the Singapore government can establish cooperation with South Sulawesi, including for investment. “We invited him (the Minister) to come and see the local potentials in South Sulawesi,” he added.

In Singapore, Andi Sudirman also attended the 2022 World Cities Summit (WCS), held at Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Center that will be run from 31 July to 3 August.

This meeting, themed “Liveable and Sustainable Cities: Emerging Stronger” invited around young leaders from various countries with a total of 70 delegates. The summit will discuss about how dealing with the threat of prolonged and unpredictable disruption in a stronger and more resilient ways.

“On the same occasion, together with the Head of the New Capital City of Nusantara (IKN), Bambang Susantono and the Singapore Minister of State for the Ministry of Home Affairs, Prof. Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, we attended the 2022 World City Summit,” he added. (mt)
